Can Style And Culture Resist The Onslaught Of Slovenliness?
When it comes to style, there’s a growing phenomenon related to it that illustrates that it might be an endangered species due to the shabby style of dress that’s slowly overwhelming culture along with high style. Can we stave off the attack of slovenliness? Maybe and maybe not. It seems we’re deliberately dressing shabbily, to the point where an eager Salvation Army worker tries to drag us to a halfway house when he sees us, unfortunately.
Experts aren’t sure when the tipping point occurred, but it’s apparent that having a bit of style and class is an excuse to be hooted at by a generation of people who would look at applying a bit of eau de parfum spray to keep one from being less fragrant than one should. In fact, some people would look at the only use for such a spray as being to cover up the smell of not having bathed in a week or to prevent one from thinking that a bear has entered the room.
Of course, it’s always the case that one generation will tend to rebel against the traditions and norms of another generation, and this is especially true when it has to do with younger people, especially men. Most of them today wouldn’t be caught dead walking around with a men’s sport watch on their wrists, for example. For them, busily digging around playing pocket pool to pull out a cellular phone seems to be something that they really love to do.
Partly, this phenomenon is due to people wanting to show off their very stylish and relatively expensive electronic wonders that can not only help facilitate a conversation but also give the weather and the time in 27 million time zones and dimensions. But if one stops for a minute — verified on a wristwatch, naturally — one would realize that just looking at the watch face is far more convenient.
As well, many a woman today has to be lamenting the loss of high style that is quickly being overwhelmed by the barbarian hordes carrying pitchforks and dressing slovenly wherever they go. A nice, stylish pair of women’s brown boots is as rare a site on many a lady’s feet as is the sight of a pair of penny loafers and a blue blazer and khaki pants might be on a young freshman or sophomore college student, who’s usually full of piercings and studs all over his body nowadays.
It could be that many people have become completely and utterly enamored of modern technology, to the point where they look at something that might remotely be considered ‘old’ with the horror that people reserved for somebody shambling into town after being turned into a zombie by one of those invading alien armies we’re worried about encountering. For sure, the wristwatch is going down to bitter defeat even as we speak.
In the ‘good old days, ‘ a watch was meant for one thing and a telephone for another and never did the twain meet. Does anybody even remember being able to pick up a phone and call for the time from a real live human being? The answer to that question probably is ‘no, ‘ and it will for sure be a historical curiosity when a watch is found on the wrist of a person traveling between Earth and Mars, sadly.
