Scary Vampires
Vampires are also called the’undead’ in myth and folklore. Some stories describe vampires as massive, swollen creatures that are dark red in color. The more popular description is a particularly thin, sheer white creature in human form that sleeps in a coffin during the sunlight hours and hunts for human blood at night to drink. In this version, the vampire has 2 long pointed eye-teeth.
Legend claims that the sole way to kill a vampire is to drive a wooden stake ( different types of wood are required in different stories ) thru his heart ( apparently most vampires are male ). Other legends say that the sole way to exterminate a vampire is to cut his head off. Still others say the only way to annihilate a vampire is to shoot him, drown him, sprinkle him with holy water, or have a clergyman conduct an exorcism.
The term’vampire’ wasn’t commonly used until the early 18th century in Western Europe. Vampire superstition was sourced from areas where vampire legends were rampant, like the Balkans and Eastern Europe.
This inflow of vampire legend into Western Europe made mass hysteria that ended in people really driving stakes thru the hearts of corpses. Many people were charged with being vampires, also.
Today vampires are often considered fictional creatures. Still, there are pockets of followers particularly in South America, in Mexico, and in Latin American areas in the US. This vampire is known as a Chupacabra. The Chupacabra is described as a heavy, nonhuman-like creature, the dimensions of a little bear, with a row of spines beginning at the neck and extending to the base of the tail.
Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel’Dracula’ continues to supply the basis of the modern vampire legend. Vampires are a dominant figures in modern day horror films and TV programming.
