Rio™ Workstation Wins Prestigious Design Award

Chicago Athenaeum recognizes Rioux Vision’s newest offering

ELGIN, S.C. (December 6, 2006) – Rioux Vision’s newest offering, the Rio™ workstation, has won a 2006 GOOD DESIGN™ Award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

The GOOD DESIGN program was founded in 1950 by noted industrial design historian Edgar Kaufmann jr. with the participation of some of America’s greatest designers of the era, including Eero Saarinen and Charles and Ray Eames, among others. It remains one of the oldest and most important design competitions in the world today, recognizing a wide variety of products for distinction in design and form. The museum received submissions from more than 25 countries before selecting this year’s winners.

“Rioux Vision is honored to have been recognized with this prestigious award,” said Shawn Rioux, president and CEO of Rioux Vision, upon learning of the award. “One of the driving concepts behind the Rio was to design a workstation that was both multifunctional and aesthetically pleasing, and this award is welcome confirmation that we have been able to achieve this goal.”

The Rio workstation, which entered full production this month, offers several unique features beyond its innovative and attractive design. These include the ability to transform the workstation into a fully functioning medication cart with an optional, removable medication distribution system (featuring multiple drawer configurations, independent lock/double-lock (narcotic) capability and multiple-user drawer assignment); a removable, exchangeable power system that allows for independent charging; and power management software that facilitates onscreen status display, logs battery charge and discharge logging, and notifies administrators via e-mail when power levels are low.
