Don’t Miss Out On These Outdoor Activities
Do you think outdoor activities are for ‘other people’? If so, read our little guide to get you excited about exploring the great outdoors. Maybe you’ll find an idea you like. First up – hiking. Hiking is a great way of getting acquainted with nature and doesn’t require any particular skill or expense. All you need is a pair of walking boots for rough terrain. Go trail hiking to follow popular scenic routes or, if you prefer, head off the beaten path and do some exploring of your own.
Another fantastic outdoor activity that everyone should try is mountain biking. If you go to a popular location to do this, then you can normally hire all the equipment you need, so there’s no need to spend loads of money on a bike. Mountain biking is a great way of exploring and you can vary the pace to suit you – you can rush along with the wind in your hair, or take it easy to absorb all the fantastic views. It’s also a great form of exercise.
If you’re a bit of a daredevil or want something a bit different, then skiing could be for you. It’s suitable for all ages and abilities: from the challenging black runs all the way down to the nursery slopes for beginners, you’re bound to find a ski run that’s great for you. You can also make use of the lifts at ski resorts, so there’s no need to go trekking all the way back up the mountains. Choose a resort renowned for its snowy climate for a great experience.
If you like a bit of a physical challenge, then climbing is another great way of exploring the great outdoors. It allows you to get up close and personal with nature and is brilliant for toning your muscles. You can also practice on an indoor climbing wall first to get the hang of it. You can hire all the equipment you need and, if you go on an arranged climb, you’ll have all the support you need to do it safely so you can just focus on enjoying yourself.
If you’re looking to get away from dry land and explore the world by water, then kayaking is a great way to do this. It’s also great if you’re after a bit of company as you can get kayaks built for one or two people. You can also choose how extreme you want to go – you could go for a nice, relaxing time kayaking on flat water or, if you’re feeling brave, have a go on white water. Either way, it’s great fun.
