Carving On The Fresh Snow
Snowboarding is a pretty new and exciting sport. You’ll find that snowboarding is more popular with those under 30, the sport is fast paced like the other three sports on which it was based. Skiing, skateboarding, and surfing inspired this sport and created many of its styles that are very clear to see. As snowboarder glides at a rapid pace down a mountain with the rider moving around the board during stunts or tricks, it immediately brings to mind a surfer taking a wave back to shore. Freestyle snowboarding, on the other hand looks like skateboarding in many ways, because it uses very similar stunts and what not.
Freestyle snowboarding places use man-made terrain that is very similar to skate parks. The mountain terrain for freestyle has items like jumps, rails, boxes and other objects to freestyle on, added by a designer who is often a rider as well. This means that any changes in terrain of the mountain become an expression, much like a ramp in skateboarding. The unique features in the snow give the freestyle snowboarder a chance to demonstrate their abilities. Freestyle snowboarders are required to use their skills to carve across the mountain face, using the terrain to get from point b to point a.
Objects like jumps, rails, and boxes are mainly used to show skills like slides or jibs. Boxes are the objects with the slick tops that allow the rider to slide the base of their board across, similar to grinding. Boxes work great, because you can make them into make shapes and sizes. This will create a various set of difficulty levels with the boxes, and that will test the freestyler’s skill. Rails are long and narrow strips of metal that a boarder can use for slides or jumps. A jib is slang for completing a slide on a box, rail or a press or object that isn’t made of snow.
